There are now quite a few of them out there. As you’d expect, I’ve listened to many and here’s a rundown to help you make the most of your precious listening time.
Dadwell & Co by Antonio Garcia
Antonio is a Chicago dad, who took a year off to explore fatherhood. I’ve talked about his work before, it’s good. We did a project together on questions for dads. His kids are five and one and under two. He’s a designer who interviews other dads who are artists, creatives and designers, exploring what fatherhood means to them, how it's changed them and how they now manage their creative and child-rearing sides of their lives.
Well worth it if you’re in the creative world, or want to learn about different takes on fatherhood.
Dad in Progress by Movember
Movember do a huge amount around male mental health. They’ve recently launched a podcast series about the early years of fatherhood. It’s a great series that brings in many different voices to answer some of the challenges we all face as fathers. The production is great, one of the best on this list.
Worth it if you’re a new dad, trying to make sense of life again.
Business dad by Alexis Ohanian
Alexis co-founded Reddit and is married to Serena Williams, they have a two year old. He interviews dads with kids of all ages. It’s very work + family focused. Alexis gets stuck into the challenges and tactics to make work and parenting work for dads who are very career-driven.
Good if work is a central part of your identity and you’re into entrepreneurship and the start-up world.
Dadpod by Dave Berry
Dave is a radio DJ/host on British radio with a sub two year old at the time of broadcasting. It’s an 8 episode series at the time of writing, mainly with famous dads and one mum. Most of them tend to be famous and they focus on how the parents manage their work and life and what they’re thinking about for the future. They’re pretty short, about 30 minutes. Tim Minchin is a favourite for me.
Worth it if you’re a new dad, or dad with young kids and limited time to listen.
The Dad Edge by Larry Hagner
This is part of The Good Project, a community of dads that feature heavily in the episodes and probably one of the longest running dad projects out there. Larry is a dad of four kids and produces a lot of things to help dads.
It’s good if you’re very serious about self improvement and appreciate a more earnest tone in your listen.
The Daily Dad by Ryan Holiday
Daily 2 - 4 minute episodes with one thought about fatherhood that come largely from Ryan Holiday’s stoic background. Ryan has written a lot about stoics and reading and shares these reflections in the context of fatherhood. This one’s good if you want to keep consuming content day in, day out.
Enjoy feeding your brain through your ears.
